About Alpacas
Luxuriously soft, lightweight, durable and extremely rare, the fur and wool of the Peruvian alpaca is unrivaled by any other natural fibre in the world. The harsh environment in the Andean mountains that these little camelids call home, conveniently makes their fleece the single most desirable fibre in the world. Alpaca fibre is uniquely smooth and glossy, creating opulent, silky products that beg to be touched, stroked and lived with. Thanks to its semi-hollow fibre structure and short glossy surface scales, alpaca fibre is extremely smooth and silky to touch and traps warmth very efficiently. Alpaca wool is also perfect for people with sensitives skin as it is allergy-free, non-prickly, while being also dirt and water repellent.
Domesticated already thousands of years ago by the predecessors of the Incas, the amazing qualities alpaca wool are forged by the extraordinarily tough weather conditions at 3500-5000 meters of altitude in the Andes mountains in Peru, where daily temperatures fluctuate up to 40 degrees – from -20C to + 20C. This unique but very hard environment produces alpaca wool that comes with superior physical qualities, more so than any other fibre available.
